Phoenix: Musical Instrument Museum

The MIM was awesome. Definitely worthwhile, and pleasantly easy to get to. Of course, I spend more time making textiles than making music these days, so a lot of the things that caught my eye were not musical instruments.

I did like the way the audio tour things worked; without them, it would’ve been either very dry or unbearably noisy. (Though there are a few things I hope they improve about that system.)

Greater Phoenix: Taliesin West

On Saturday, S and I went to Taliesin West. We opted for the less-involved tour, which, because the tour guide was very enthusiastic, turned out to be an hour and 15 minutes rather than an hour.

Notable things: natural/rustic rock-in-cement construction, open-space windows that were only eventually replaced with glass, the roofs were originally canvas & are now some kind of fancy canvas between fiberglass (?) layers. Also, lots of art/performance space.
